A FLASH FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR ALL OF CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST UTAH, INCLUDING WEST OF THE GREEN RIVER, THE HANSVILLE AREA, LAKE POWELL, CAPITOL REEF NATIONAL PARK  AND WEST TO THENEVADA BORDER. HEAVY RAINFALL AND FLASHFLOODING IN SLOT CANYONS IN THE AREA IS EXPECTED.

(Undated) -- The controversy created when a Missouri U.S. Senate candidate suggested a woman's body can prevent contraception after rape is spilling into Utah's first congressional district. Representative Rob Bishop was criticized by Democrat Donna McAleer for his co-sponsorship of a bill she claims tried to re-define rape. He says she has her facts wrong and the "Salt Lake Tribune" reports some errors about who sponsored the bill and when were changed in her blog after the paper pointed them out.

>>Mia Love To Speak At Republican National Convention

(Tampa, FL) -- A rising Republican star in Utah will be in the national spotlight next week when she addresses the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Florida. Mia Love is scheduled to speak on Tuesday during prime time television coverage of the convention. Love is currently the mayor of Saratoga Springs but is trying to unseat second district congressman and Democrat Jim Matheson this November.

>>Hearing Set In "Sister Wives" Case

(Undated) -- A federal judge is going to hear arguments for and against the Utah state law which bans polygamy. A hearing set for January is part of the lawsuit filed by the polygamous family featured in the reality TV show "Sister Wives." They argue the polygamy law violates rights to privacy and freedom of expression. Prosecutors have already said they wouldn't prosecute the family or other consenting polygamists as an attempt to get the suit thrown out.

>>LDS Faith The Subject Of Hour Long NBC Special

(Undated) -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will be the subject of a primetime show next week on NBC. The "Deseret News" reports "Rock Center" will devote an entire hour next Thursday to Mormonism. The show's executive producer says with Mitt Romney and "The Book of Mormon" on Broadway, this is "a Mormon moment." He also promised no hidden agenda and an honest look at the faith.

>>Rice-Eccles Stadium Expansion Planned

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The University of Utah is looking to expand Rice-Eccles Stadium by another ten-thousand seats. The "Deseret News" also reports an expansion plan includes booster areas for Ute football. Right now, the expansion is just being discussed and there is no timetable to begin or complete construction. The school has studied the cost of renovations before and determined it could take between 40- and 60-million dollars.


>>Powell Family Attorney Makes Plea For Police Records

(West Valley City, UT) -- City Councilors in West Valley City will look into the disappearance of Susan Cox Powell before a decision is made over whether to release records to her parents' attorney. The "Tribune" is reporting yesterday's decision during an executive session of City Councilors. They now have five business days to ultimately choose to release investigative records to Washington lawyer Anne Bremner. The attorney says Powell's parents are entitled to police records detailing the Utah woman's mysterious 2009 disappearance.

>>Salt Lake Co. Parks Bond To Be Up For Vote

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A parks bond will be left to voters in Salt Lake County this November. County Mayor Peter Corroon yesterday elected to put the 47-million-dollar bond on the ballot. City Councilors also said the money would only be used for projects that have already been publicly identified. Councilors also said if the bond is OKd by voters they will make certain Corroon does not divert funds to his own pet projects.

>>UTA: Video Of Fatal Train Accident Could Save Lives

(Murray, UT) -- Utah Transit officials are hoping video released from a fatal TRAX accident will help save lives. Seventy-two-year-old Lorna Boguslawski was killed August 15th after she allegedly tried to pass a downed crossing arm as a TRAX train was approaching. Newly-released video shows the woman's car turning left around the deployed crossing arm and into the path of a speeding train. The victim's car was then dragged nearly 100-yards.

>>Convicted Killer May Have More Blood On His Hands

(Duchesne, UT) -- A man convicted of double-murder in Utah may have other victims. That revelation comes yesterday as investigators in Duchesne County allege killer John Pinder may be connected to more fatalities. Pinder is already serving two life sentences for the 1998 kidnapping and murder of Rex Tanner and June Flood. The killer is currently asking a judge to have his convictions overturned.
