>>Orem Couple Found Dead Inside Home

(Orem, UT) -- Police are not saying much about the deaths of an Orem couple. The bodies of Joseph Berg and Luz "Lucy" Schwartz were found yesterday at Berg's home. Police aren't commenting on the causes of death, other than to say there were no obvious signs of trauma. Berg was just released from jail last week. Berg, a plastic surgeon at the Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Institute, was convicted of kidnapping his wife and gun and drug charges earlier this year. The couple stayed together.

>>Draper Man Charged After Baby Dies

(Draper, UT) -- A Draper man has been charged with murder for the death of his baby boy. The baby died yesterday morning at Primary Children's Medical Center. Police say Mijail Alejandro Russell-Torres originally told doctors his baby had drowned. Doctors later told police there were no signs of drowning in the one-month old baby, and instead it looked like a case of shaken baby syndrome.

>>Pleasant Grove Man Accused Of Murdering Wife Appears In Court

(Provo, UT) -- A Pleasant Grove doctor who's accused of murdering his wife has made his first court appearance. Martin MacNeill is accused of giving his wife a lethal dose of painkillers five years ago. The original autopsy showed she died of natural causes. In court in Provo yesterday, MacNeill was stared down by two of his daughters in court. MacNeill also recently completed a federal prison term for fraud.
GOP Delegates Converge In FL For Convention

(Tampa, FL) -- Utah's Republican delegates descend on Tampa, Florida, for the start of the party's National Convention. With fears over Isaac lessened yesterday afternoon delegates looked squarely at throwing their support behind presumptive party candidate Mitt Romney. Utah delegates were scheduled to assemble one-thousand hygiene kits to be distributed by the LDS Church

>>Love Prepares Speech For GOP Convention

(Tampa, FL) -- Mia Love is preparing for her big speech tonight at the Republican National Convention. Love, who's running for Congress against Democrat Jim Matheson, is scheduled to address delegates tonight in Tampa. The "Deseret News" reports her speech is entitled "It's the American I Know," and it will include her family's story. She practiced delivering it at a Tampa hotel yesterday.
 
 


>>Salt Lake Firefighters Knock Out Vehicle Fire

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Salt Lake City firefighters are investigating a fire that broke out on the west side of town. The fire along West Indiana Avenue involved several semi trailers and some other vehicles. Firefighters had the fire under control by seven o'clock last night, only about 15 minutes after it was originally called in. No injuries were reported.
>>Idaho Man Dead In Crash

(Brigham City, UT) -- An Idaho man is dead and another person is injured following a crash on Interstate 15 south of Brigham City. Authorities say 31-year-old Anthony Jackson of Boise died when he allegedly rammed into the back of a semi-tractor yesterday afternoon. A passenger inside Jackson's vehicle was recovering from unknown injuries.

>>Highland Residents Want Local Biz To Shutter Sundays

(Highland, UT) -- Residents of one Utah community want reforms in the way their local businesses operate on the Sabbath. Some residents are asking leaders in Highland to block businesses from operating on Sundays after a recent decision to overturn restrictions. The backers want voters to decide on the matter in a November election.

>>FedEx Driver Thwarts Mugger In SLC

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- An employee from FedEx is beige hailed a hero today after he thwarts a mugging attempt in Salt Lake City. According to the "Tribune," the unnamed employee chased down a male suspect who was spotted trying to steal a woman's purse. The incident happened in the parking lot of the Honks One Dollar store. Despite the suspect pointing a gun at the FedEx driver, which later turned out to be a BB gun, he continued to chase him before holding him down until police arrived. The suspect now faces a myriad of charges in connection.

NORTH SALT LAKE — Thousands of Utah children are returning to the classroom this week, but many aren't returning to their traditional, neighborhood schools. Nearly 10 percent of Utah students now attend charter schools. Over the last few years, charter schools have exploded in Utah. Estimates show they will soon educate 50,000 Utah students, as many parents are looking for alternatives to their traditional schools
