(Riverdale, UT) -- Riverdale police say they know the identity of a woman found at a local construction site. However, until her family is notified, they're not making the name public. A worker made the grisly discovery yesterday at the site at 17-hundred West 48-hundred South.

>>Suicide Prevention Programs Considered

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Suicide-prevention programs are under consideration for Utah schools. The bill requires districts to implement these programs at junior high and high schools statewide. The estimated cost is 250-thousand dollars.

>>Female Inmate Capacity Reached

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A new report says Utah has reached its capacity for incarcerated females. The Sentencing Project says the Utah data is following a national trend. The number of female inmates rose over 20-percent between 2000 and 2009. Meanwhile the disparity among white and black inmates is shrinking.

>>Demo Worker Remembered

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The Sandy man killed in a roof collapse in Brigham City is remembered by family. Loved ones say Saofai Sautia [[ SO-fye SAU-tee-uh ]] was a family man and basketball fan. Sautia was killed Tuesday when a K-mart roof collapsed on him. He's survived by his wife and three daughters.

>>Utah Knifemaker Waiting List

(Manti, UT) -- If you're wanting a knife from Manti's Steve Johnson, you'll have to wait until 2016 or so. Johnson has been called the best knifemaker in the world. He says he only makes 60 knives a year because he pays so much attention to the intricate designs.



ALPINE, Utah – A group of about 50 parents met Wednesday night in support of the Lone Peak High School football coach who resigned earlier this week amid allegations of financial mismanagement. They say parents upset about playing time started a witch hunt to find a way to get coach Tony McGeary in trouble. McGeary tendered his resignation on Monday, but on Wednesday, Mike Hall read a letter from the coach, who resigned to save the program from pain, not because he’d done anything wrong.

The allegations were made in a 42-page complaint filed by a parents’ group claiming that the coach took a deal with the apparel company Under Armour without having the authority to do so and that he charged extra for a football camp at the College of Eastern Utah so he could be paid more.

 


WEST VALLEY CITY — Police say a woman who used a fake diamond to swindle another woman out of thousands of dollars has struck a second time, this time with an accomplice. West Valley City police said two Hispanic women approached another woman who was shopping near 3100 South and 5600 West on Feb. 16, saying they needed help. One of the women offered a story about her family being hurt in a terrible car accident earlier that day and that she needed money to cover medical expenses. The second woman explained she was helping raise the necessary funds. The pair asked the woman to buy a diamond, which ended up being fake, for $5,000 and promised a $14,000 return.

Utah lawmakers want to study the intricacies and economic impact of the state taking over and managing tens of millions of acres of public lands that it has demanded the federal government relinquish. The analysis to be performed in HB142 would cost $450,000 and, would inform the discussion of how the state could manage the land currently in federal control. Last year, the state gave Congress a deadline of December 2014 to turn over tens of millions of acres of federal land to the state. The bill now moves to the Senate for consideration. A House Committee also approved Wednesday, HB131, authorizing creation of a new Federalism Commission, intended to flag areas where the federal government is treading on Utah’s sovereignty and push back against the unwanted intrusions on issues like land management and gun issues.

(Moab Utah)- A lot of business develpment occuring around the Moab Area as the community prepares for the 2013 tourist season. New restaurants and businessses are planning on opening and motels are undergoing remodeling. The est Wesern Greenwell Inn is remodeling all of its room and adding a recreation cetner and media room, a breakfast center and lounge. The Hoiday Inn Express is adding a second structure with more rooms, a new motel is planned north of the river and land is being cleared for a major motel resort development west of 1st west. Remodeling has been compted at Eddie McStiff's, making the facility more upscale. A new Restaurent, called Twisted Sista's is locating in the old Popular Place and Casanos' location. The SLickrock cafe has had some upgrades and expaded menu and next door a new Essential Home store will be opening featuring kitchen utensils, wine tea and coffee acessories. A new restuarent, Los Dos Amigos is locating in the old Stagecoach Restaurent on south Highway 191. In addition the Moab Diner facility is adding on and a new tire store is locating next to Family Dollar.

>>Cedar City Police Now Investigating Double-Homicide

(Cedar City, UT) -- The man accused of gunning down two people in Cedar City will answer to murder charges. Fifty-four-year-old Thad Robertson had been named as a person of interest in the killings but wasn't charged until yesterday afternoon. Police say Robertson's daughter called 911 to report her father was suicidal and admitted to, quote, "doing something stupid." They found 59-year-old Diann Bailey and 52-year-old Jeffrey Lane Hardy suffering gunshot wounds at a home on North 400 West. Robertson was arrested on drug and weapons charges and later charged with two counts of murder.

>>Parents Charged In Child-Abuse Case

(Roy, UT) -- A Roy couple is accused of committing horrific crimes against their three young children. Jaimie Stoddard and Brandon Babbitt were charged yesterday with child abuse and tampering with witnesses. They allegedly used an electric dog collar to shock the kids -- who are four, five and six -- and forced them to eat dog food. During the investigating, police say the couple also contacted the children and tried to discourage them from talking to authorities.

>>Abortion Information Bill Heads To House

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A controversial abortion bill is moving forward in the state legislature. The bill would require the state to collect information about abortions. It passed the Republican-led Senate yesterday and now heads to the House. Critics say the law will make women feel even more uncomfortable with the procedure, but supporters say the federal government already requires patients to fill out a similar form.

>>Man Accused Of Growing Pot In Daughter's Room

(Provo, UT) -- A 29-year-old Provo man is accused of growing pot in his home, including inside his five-year-old daughter's room. Jordan Cook was arrested Tuesday on various drug charges. Police say there was latterly marijuana growing inside every room of the house. They confiscated nearly 150 plants and 70 pounds of the drug. The little girl is now staying with her mother.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A lawsuit requesting decriminalization of polygamy is getting some local support. Joe Darger, who has three wives, is lobbying lawmakers to support an overturn of Utah's polygamy ban.
Reality TV polygamist Kody Brown and his four wives filed the lawsuit. A ruling could come soon.

>>Concealed Weapons Without Permits

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A proposal allowing the right to carry a loaded concealed weapon without a permit is now on the House floor. House Bill 76 inspired some heated debate, though, before passing out of committee.
Two Democrats voted against the bill.

(Salt Lake City)- Former Brigham Young University and NFL quarterback Ty Detmer has turned his atention to hunting..not for football trophies, but guiding clients to big-game trophies. Detmer, returns to Utah this weekend to attend the seventh annual Western Hunting & Conservation Expo at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City. Detmer will be at the show and in the Texas T Hunts exhibition booth from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday promoting hunts on his 1,300-acre T-14 Ranch in south Texas. Wayne LaPierre, executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, is the keynote speaker at the main banquet on Saturday night.

PROVO — A woman was arrested Wednesday after police say she hit a bicyclist with her vehicle, pushing him into the path of an oncoming FrontRunner train that killed him.Maria Fregoso-Avina, 49, was arrested for investigation of negligent homicide, improper lookout and driving with an obstructed windshield. Investigators discovered that there was frost covering her windshield Friday morning when her SUV struck Douglas Crow, pushing him onto the tracks near 700 West and 600 South in Provo.

PRICE — An Air Force A-10 aircraft out of Arizona made an emergency landing at the Price Airport Wednesday.One of the plane's engines reportedly went out, said Assistant Airport Manager Jennifer Jensen."Our airport was the closest with a long enough runaway," she said.The pilot was able to land the aircraft without incident.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The Valley is in the sights of yet another winter storm. The warmer temperatures last weekend will give way to a storm forecast to last from tonight through Thursday morning. A winter storm watch is issued for the entire state with the potential for up to two-feet of snowfall in some spots. Forecasters say a second winter storm will hit Salt Lake City this weekend and yet a third the following weekend.

>>Cop's Home Burns In West Jordan, Neighbors Shaken

(West Jordan, UT) -- A neighborhood in West Jordan is experiencing frayed nerves after the home of a police officer goes up in flames. Authorities say neighbors reported hearing an explosion inside the home on New Heritage Circle yesterday as it became engulfed by flames. No one was home at the time and investigators are looking into the incident. Damages are estimated at between 50-and-100-thousand dollars.

>>Bill Would Create Prison Land Management Agency

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A half-billion dollar deal to relocate Utah's main prison could become a reality. Lawmakers are looking at a bill that would create a Prison Land Management Authority in Utah. The agency would be given power to fast track a plan to relocate the prison in Draper. Officials want to move the prison to another site so the seven-thousand-acres of land on which it now sits can be used for commercial development.

>>Family Cries For Help As Deportation Looms

(Taylorsville, UT) -- A family from El Salvador says they'll be killed if U.S. immigration officials force their deportation from Utah back to their native country. According to the "Tribune," a Salt Lake-based agency lobbying on the behalf of Ana Canenguez and her four sons held a press conference yesterday. The woman cried out in Spanish that El Salvadoran gangs would kill them if they returned because she didn't give the gang money like it demanded before she fled to the U.S. Two of Canenguez's younger sons will avoid deportation because they were born in the U.S. The agency and the family are calling on Utah officials to intervene in some way.

>>Snow Birds Don't Mind Cold, Hard Snow Pack

(Undated) -- Snow birds are flocking to Utah ski resorts despite the not-so-favorable conditions for their favorite outdoor recreation. Utah has been locked in a cold snap that's been tough on ski runs by leaving behind hard-packed surfaces, even on those with newly fallen snow. President's Day weekend was a boon for business at Alta and Snowbird, the latter which reported its highest hotel occupancy of the year over the weekend.



LAYTON, Utah - The Layton City Police Department has made an arrest after responding to a threat at the Layton Hills Mall on Sunday evening. Police say that 20-year-old William Meyer of Layton made threatening posts on his Facebook account. They say he threatened to go to the mall and stab people. Police say Meyer then deleted his Facebook account. Meyer wasn’t found at the mall on Sunday night and, after a day of searching, police located him Monday afternoon at a Layton home.

 

>>Jazz Assistant Coach Arrested For Tax Evasion

(Salt Lake city, UT) -- Jazz assistant coach Sidney Lowe is under arrest for allegedly failing to pay taxes in North Carolina. Team spokeswoman Linda Luchetti confirmed the story and said they are "looking into it" but have no response "at this time." Lowe was head coach at North Carolina State from 2006-2011.

>>House Okays Dating Violence Measure

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The Utah House is agreeing to a measure protecting dating partners from attacks or threats. The bill lets victims get a court protective order to keep the other person away from them. It's now before the Senate. Right now in Utah, you can only get a protective order if you're married, living with or have a child with the abuser. Representative Jennifer Seelig says dating violence killed 15 Utahns between 2004 and 2011.

>>Measure Protects Cops From Legal Action From Chase Crashes

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A state senator is trying to protect law enforcement from legal action if someone they're chasing hurts or kills themselves. Senator Stuart Adams says it would not protect the officer from litigation if Constitutional rights are violated and the pursuit must follow the law. The bill does not give immunity for the death or injury to bystanders.

>>Three Hurt Crossing Street

(Ogden, UT) -- Ogden police say three pedestrians hit by a pickup were in the crosswalk at the time. The three injured are a 12-year-old girl, an 83-year-old woman and a 72-year-old woman. Two of the victims were critically hurt. They had left a movie about 10:30 Saturday night and were struck on Washington Boulevard. Police say alcohol doesn't appear to be involved.

>>Six Accused Of Vandalism With BB Guns

(Salt Lake County, UT) -- Four teens and two adults are accused of shooting house and car windows in a number of Salt Lake County communities. The six allegedly used BB guns and caused an estimated 50-thousand dollars in damages in West Jordan, West Valley City and Kearns. They're also suspected of similar vandalism earlier this month in West Valley City and Kearns.

>>Hatch Has New Book Writes On Mormon Belief

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch's new book is tackling the Catholic and Protestant view of God as a trinity. The book is titled "An American, a Mormon and a Christian: What I Believe." Hatch says the book says "Mormons believe that the father, son and holy ghost are three separate beings." He says Mitt Romney's presidential nomination offered a prime opportunity to help people understand Mormon beliefs.

>>Candlelight Vigil Remembers Midvale Victims

(Midvale, UT) -- A candlelight vigil is held in Midvale for the victims of last week's triple murders. Danielle Lucero, Omar Jarman and Shontay Young died in Tuesday's shootings. Police say the residence where David Fresques went on his shooting spree is a known drug hideout. Family and friends of Lucero came out to the rundown two-story house last night to set up a makeshift memorial made of candles and flowers.

>>Wild Horse Roundup Nets More Than 250

(Delta, UT) -- A huge roundup of Utah's wild horses results in the capture of more than 250 equines over the weekend. The Bureau of Land Management's roundup of the Swansey herd in the west desert required four days to accomplish. Crews were aided by a helicopter that trapped the animals for capture. Nearly 35-hundred horses and burros have been pulled off public land this year using similar methods.

>>Hospitals Hemorrhaging Big Bucks

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Utah hospitals say they lost nearly 700-million dollars last year in uncompensated health care. The economy has left thousands of cared-for patients with little or no insurance and as a result they aren't paying their bills. Utah officials have not decided whether they'll expand Medicaid next year to cover 58-thousand residents. But eEven if that happens some hospitals think the problem will still exist.

>>S-U-U Basketball Player Arrested

(Cedar City, UT) -- A basketball player from Southern Utah University is in trouble for alleged drug possession. Iron County jail records say Wade Collie was arrested early yesterday and held on suspicion of having drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Collie is the third athlete from the school to face legal trouble during the 2012-2013 academic calendar.

LAYTON, Utah – The Layton City Police Department responded to a threat at the Layton Hills Mall on Sunday evening a little before 6 p.m., but they have not released specific information about the nature of the threat.Sgt. Roderick, Layton City Police Department, said they received a threat on Sunday. He said that as a precaution they responded on the assumption the threat was credible and increased police presence at the mall.Police officers left the mall around 7:30 p.m., but investigators remained on scene for some time after. Roderick said they believe they know where the individual who made the threat is, and they are working on opening communication with him. They said the suspect is not at the mall but did not provide further detail.

RICHFIELD — An 18-year-old woman was shot in the chest by a rifle that accidentally discharged Sunday. Cheyenne Hibberd and her friend Jesse Warenski, 22, were driving around when they got a flat tire and went to a family member's house to change it. Warenski was reaching into the back seat of the truck to grab a tire iron when a .30-06 caliber rifle discharged, according to the Sevier County Sheriff's Office. The bullet entered her left side and exited her body above her right breast. Hibberd then began walking, saying all she could think about was "taking a walk," according to the sheriff's office. She soon noticed pain in her left side, saw blood and eventually collapsed along Heppler's Road. Warenski called a friend who then called an ambulance. Hibberd was transported via Life Flight to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo.

>>Report: Ex-Con Among Dead In Midvale Murders

(Midvale, UT) -- One of the men killed in Tuesday's deadly triple murders in Midvale is identified as an ex-con. The "Tribune" says 26-year-old Danielle Lucero had a court appearance scheduled today to face third-degree felony charges of possessing drug paraphernalia and another person's identification. But Lucero was one of three people killed in a known drug house. Thirty-five-year-old Omar Jarman and 34-year-old Shontay Young were also killed. Landlord Jose Velasquez says he filed eviction papers in January for two tenants named Jose Fernando and Esther Arredondo and he was waiting for the matter to be settled by the courts when the shootings occurred. The manhunt for two male suspects continues today.

>>Bill Would Ban Phone Use In Car By Those Under 18

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Utah lawmakers are taking aim at teenagers who use their cell phones while driving - even with hands-free devices. The Legislature will consider a bill prohibiting any motorist 18-and-under from using a cellular phone while behind the wheel. Republican Representative Lee Perry - himself a Utah Highway patrolman - is sponsoring the bill and says the restrictions are no different than others placed on young drivers. A House committee on law enforcement OK'd the bill yesterday although some committee members said they had reservations and might end up voting against it when the bill appears on the House floor.

>>$200K In Damages From Roy House Blaze

(Roy, UT) -- A house fire in Roy leaves nearly 200-thousand-dollars in damages. It happened yesterday afternoon near 48-hundred South and 36-hundred West. Investigators believe the fire erupted in the garage before flames spread throughout the entire residence. Within minutes 70-percent of the home had become engulfed. The home is considered a total loss. No injuries are reported.

>>UT Dad Witnesses Birth While Stationed Overseas

(Orem, UT) -- Thanks to the Internet a Utah soldier witnesses the birth of his son despite being stationed thousand of miles away from home. The "Deseret News" says Utah National Guard Specialist Paul Gibbs attended the birth of his first child this week via Skype. Gibbs watched and encouraged his wife Katy in Orem through the monitor of a laptop computer from his base in Afghanistan. Once Everett Joseph Gibbs was born, he perked up when he heard the words, "Hey, buddy, I'm your daddy."


>>Man On Fire Dies

(Provo, UT) -- A badly-burned man found Monday outside a Provo 7-11 has died. Authorities say Sean Romero of Orem was burned over 80 percent of his body. Dave Johnson, the 7-11 owner, watched the whole thing.

SALT LAKE CITY – Wednesday is the second time in a week protesters calling for an improvement in Utah’s air quality came to the Utah State Capitol with a petition.Wednesday’s demonstration was much smaller than last week’s, but the message was the same. They want something to be done about the state’s air and they’re hoping Governor Herbert is listening.Dozens of protesters from groups like the Utah Tar Sands Resistance, Peaceful Uprising, Mormon Environmental Stewardship and Utah Moms for Clean Air filed into the governor’s office to stage what they’re calling a "cough-in."

ROY — A home in Roy was destroyed Wednesday after a fire that started in the garage spread throughout most of the house. The Roy City Fire Department responded to the fire, located at
4894 S. 3650 W., at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The fire was originally called in as a car fire in the garage, but quickly spread to the home.

 

bill to put "In God We Trust" on some Utah license plates moved closer to passage Wednesday in the Utah Senate.Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, amended HB34 to remove a requirement for people interested in getting a plate to pay $25 annually to the Utah Division of Motor Vehicles, with the proceeds of that money going to faith-based groups.Instead, obtaining the proposed plate would cost a one-time fee, as with any other specialty license plate and no cash funneled to private groups.With the amendment, the bill won preliminary approval 23-0. But it will need a final Senate vote.

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Governor Gary Herbert says the President has the wrong plan for America. Following President Obama’s State of the Union address this evening, Governor Herbert issued a statement says....

Too much government with not enough private sector empowerment will only further slow economic growth and stifle recovery. Mr. Obama is confused about the proper roles of the federal government, the states and the private sector. The governor added:

When I bought my first car, my dad taught me that you can buy it, if you can afford it. Our nation is buying much today that we cannot afford.

(Midvale, UT) -- People in Midvale admit they're shocked after three people were found shot to death inside a home.

The three were found murdered Tuesday and a fourth person has been hospitalized in critical condition. Police are looking for 25-year-old David Freques [[ Fraz-kez ]] as a person of interest in the case, as well as a second suspect.


>>Springdale Manager Arrested

(Springdale, UT) -- The city manager of Springdale is under arrest in connection with allegations of mismanagement. Richard Wixom was arrested yesterday morning and posted bail by the end of the day. On Monday, he and Springdale Police Chief Kurt Alvin were charged with one-count each of failure to keep and pay over public money. An investigation by the Utah A-Gs office revealed the two officials funneled more than 33-thousand-dollars in traffic fines to Springdale coffers instead of the courts.

>>Valley's Air Quality No Longer Getting Dirty Looks By Politicians

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- State legislators are finally taking up the urgent call by Utahns to clean-up the Valley's dirty air. Legislators at the Capitol joined Governor Herbert yesterday in pledging to take a look at Salt Lake City air quality. A protest by air quality advocates is scheduled for outside the Capitol later this afternoon. The Valley has already experienced 20 days this year which outpaced the E-P-As health standards for fine-particle air pollution.

>>Cost For Proposed Downtown Theater Could Top $180M

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- New cost estimates are announced for a proposed theater in downtown Salt Lake City. The "Tribune" says City Councilors are fine-tuning financing for the Performing Arts Center's pitch for a new playhouse. Originally the facility was earmarked at 110-million dollars but including the cost of interest payments that cost is more likely to surpass 180-million. The City Council is predicted to adopt the revised cost plans next week.

>>Stations Hacked With Alert Forecasting Phony Zombie 'Attack'

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- It's not Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" but the F-C-C is investigating Monday night's bizarre incident that led to several national broadcast outlets - including five in Salt Lake City - to issue emergency alerts of an impending invasion by zombies. The F-C-C believes hackers briefly broke into the Emergency Alert System which interrupts live television with communications to alert the public in case of an emergency. KSL-TV says it was one of five broadcast outlets in Utah which displayed the warning that zombies were about to attack. The alert instructed viewers not to approach the zombies.

>>Red Velvet Has Way Of Melting Utahns' Hearts

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Valentine's Day tomorrow is the perfect opportunity for Salt Lake sweet tooths to celebrate with their favorite red-colored treat. According to the "Tribune" Utah has a new love-affair with Red Velvet cake. The southern-born concoction is actually chocolate-flavored cake mix loaded with red food coloring. Utah bakery owners say Red Velvet cakes and other Red Velvet-inspired spinoffs have taken over as the favorite among all Valley desserts.

OREM, Utah – A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was hit while in his vehicle on Interstate 15 in Orem. Just after 3:10 p.m., the trooper had was conducting a traffic stop in the southbound right-hand emergency lane of I-15 near the Orem University Parkway at milepost 269. He was sitting in his vehicle when a truck traveling southbound lost control of his vehicle, hit a concrete wall, rolled over then hit the patrol vehicle.The trooper sustained minor injuries.Utah Highway Patrol says this is the fourteenth trooper hit so far this year.

TAYLORSVILLE — A man police say was attempting a drive-by shooting at an apartment complex didn't get far.As he took his eyes off the road, he crashed into a parking structure and a cement post about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Callaway Apartments, 1141 W. 3900 South.Unified police detective Ken Hansen said it appears the only thing the man shot before he crashed was a truck parked nearby. The man, believed to be in his 20s, is in police custody,

>>Man Found Dead In Pond, Second Man OK

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Police in Salt Lake City say a man's body has been pulled from a pond in Fairmont Park. Authorities also say they're investigating why a second man at the scene was found alive and sitting on the banks of the pond soaking wet. The cause of death in the first man - believed to be in his 30s or 40s - is still under investigation. No word on the second man's condition. Salt Lake Poi ce Lt. Carl Merino says other witnesses watching the ducks at the pond saw one man, who looked wet and a second body in the water.

>>Ex-L-D-S Leader Accused Of Sexual Assault

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A Utah judge is ordering a former L-D-S Church branch leader to stand trial for sexual assault. Efrey Guzman faces charges including aggravated assault and sexual abuse of a child. Guzman is the former president of a Latino L-D-S congregation in Sandy. He's accused of breaking into a Millcreek home where he assaulted a teen and attacked an adult female. Guzman faces life behind bars if convicted.

>>D-N-A Evidence Helps Tie Two Murders

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Crime lab evidence is helping Utah investigators identify a local serial killer. Authorities say they've been able to link two murders that happened on the same day two years apart. Sonia Mejia was strangled February 9th, 2006 while Damiana Castillo was found murdered in her home exactly two-years later in West Valley City. Detectives say they're now looking for one suspect who they believe is Latino and may have been a teenager at the time.

The Utah Division of Wildlife says it euthanized "Bob" the elk after he was found in the mountains sickly and dying. Locals say they had gotten to know "Bob" because he comes around looking for food and now they're demanding better answers.

(Undated) -- Utah isn't the "reddest" state in the nation, but it's in the top five. An annual poll from Gallup says Alabama, North Dakota, Wyoming and Mississippi are a little more red than Utah. Voters were asked to identify their ideology as conservative, liberal or moderate. Just under half the voters in Utah say they are conservative. On the flip side, Washington D.C. and Massachusetts had the highest percentage of voters who called themselves liberal.

The Utah Department of Health website takes those reports and filters them down to the twelve local health departments so they can follow up. Common symptoms that can be reported to the website include diarrhea, vomiting and stomach pain.

SALT LAKE CITY — The largest Boy Scout council in America is urging its national leadership to hold off on voting to allow gay members within its ranks.The Great Salt Lake Council of Boy Scouts said Monday it has joined with 32 other councils in asking the Boy Scouts of America to delay a vote on lifting its ban on gay members and leaders."We’re the largest council in the United States and we were uninformed and totally caught off guard that national was pursuing this course," said Kay Godfrey, a spokesman for the Great Salt Lake Council of Boy Scouts. "The stance of the Great Salt Lake Council as of this morning is that we oppose any change to the current membership policy without completely allowing an open forum discussion with councils across the country,"

 

LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON — Crews rescued a backcountry skier Monday after he fell off a 100-foot cliff. Robert Babbitt, 31, of Salt Lake City, was in critical condition Monday night but recovering well considering the height of the fall and the efforts it took to rescue him, police said. Babbitt had been skiing with three friends when the accident occurred. It was unclear whether he'd slipped, taken a wrong turn or exactly how it happened. Rescue crews were eventually able to reach Babbitt in the Hogum's Fork area, between Tanner's Flat and Snowbird Ski Resort. A Life Flight helicopter used a hoist to pick him up and take him to a hospital.

(Salt Lake)- Drivers of clean-fuel vehicles, enjoy freeway carpool lanes while you can. The Utah House took another step Monday toward limiting such access in the future.The House also passed two other transportation bills on Monday — one to allow issuing a new "In God We Trust" license plate, and another to allow drivers at some unusual new interchanges to turn either right or left on red lights.The House voted 51-23 to pass HB23 to allow the Utah Department of Transportation to limit how many clean-fuel vehicles it allows in carpool lanes. Currently if owners pay $10 for a decal, they may use those lanes even if the driver is the only passenger. That was allowed years ago to encourage more clean-fuel cars.
