>>Firefighters Struggle To Contain Pinyon Wildfire

(Eagle Mountain, UT) -- It seems whenever firefighters start to get the upper hand on a big wildfire at Camp Williams, the fire jumps a containment line. Yesterday, the fire more than doubled in size after it broke through a containment line. Before the breach, the fire was estimated to be 40-percent contained by now it's only about ten-percent. Dozens of firefighters on the ground are getting help from choppers and air tankers. No new evacuations have been ordered.
PAGE, Ariz. — Policy are investigating the drowning of two women who were found in Lake Powell.
The body of one was pulled out of the Lake Wendesday and the second was found Thursday.
Merve Tokel was found Wednesday and Betul Eryildirim was found Thursday. The two women, both 21 and from Turkey, were working for the summer for the company that runs the concession stand at Bullfrog Marina. They were living in Bullfrog for the summer

>>I-15 Construction Sign Hacked, Flashed "God Hates Gays"

(Provo, UT) -- UDOT is promising to step up the security of its mobile construction zone signs, after one of them in Provo was reprogrammed with a hate message. On Tuesday night at the University Avenue exit in Provo, somebody reprogrammed the sign to alternate between "follow detour" and "God hates gays." UDOT says those signs cannot be programmed by remote, so somebody just stopped by and tinkered with it. The message was quickly condemned by Provo city officials.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The company that makes a small, energy-efficient desktop computer is planning to hire as many as five hundred people over the next several years. Xi3 Corporation has been approved for two-million-dollars' worth of state tax incentives. The company says they are seeing increased demand and they're expanding to keep up with it. If all goes according to plan, the new jobs would generate tens of millions of dollars in wages and state revenue through taxes on corporate and personal incomes.

>>Manager Busted For Scamming Famous Dave's

(West Jordan, UT) -- A former manager is in trouble for a scheme he was running at Famous Dave's at Jordan Landing. Prosecutors say the man pocketed cash paid by customers but recorded the transactions as gift card purchases. They say he admitted to stealing more than 27-thousand dollars between January and April of this year. He now faces a charge of second-degree felony theft, according to "The Salt Lake Tribune."

>>Middle Schoolers Charged In Payson High Arson

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Three middle-schoolers face felony charges in connection to a Payson High School arson fire. Police say they're accused of lighting a storage shed on fire Tuesday afternoon, and destroying about 40-thousand-dollars worth of the school's athletic equipment. Fire officials say a 13-year-old and two 14-year-olds got into the unlocked shed and used a lighter to start the fire. They're charged with first-degree aggravated arson, second-degree obstruction of justice, and third-degree burglary.

>>Stricter Accountability For Charter Schools Considered

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- State education officials are considering stricter rules for both academic and financial accountability for charter schools. State Charter School Board members say they need more data to show how Utah charter schools are performing. They say buildings are a big issue. For example, some are stretching their enrollment to get more funding to drive down their percentage spent on buildings, while others are spending too much of their budgets on facilities. They also say there are many areas of performance where there is no specific standard set.

(Salt Lake County, UT) -- Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon is taking a step to make it easier for citizens to express their opinions. He says he's created a new program online for those wanting to express their views. He says he hopes it will inspire more trust in the county government. Find a link on the county's website.

>>Girl Drowns In Pond

(Pleasant Grove, UT) -- A seven-year-old Eagle Mountain girl is dead after drowning in a Pleasant Grove pond yesterday. Police say she was swimming in an area of Manila Creek Pond that was three or four feet deep before her mother found her floating face down at around 3 p.m. Paramedics tried to revive her before sending her to the hospital where she was declared dead. Police say there's no reason to suspect negligence in the drowning.

>>FBI Warns Of New Citadel Virus Malware

(Washington, DC) -- The FBI is warning computer users about a new threat. The agency's Internet Crime Complaint Center says a new version of Citadel malware is being used to deliver "ransomware." It lures the victim to a download website which installs the ransomware on the user's computer. Once infected, the screen displays a warning that the user has violated federal law and must pay a fine using prepaid money card services. The FBI says it's an attempt to extort money. Anyone receiving such a message should not follow payment instructions. Instead, they are being advised to have their computer checked out and the malware removed.
