The Moab Times Independent this morning reports that Grand Water and Sewer District officials say critical action is needed at Kens Lake because of very lo water levels. The proposed plan includes pumping ground water into the irrigation system, restriction water use from the lake and workj with other agencies on conservation of water. The GWSSA Board meeting this evening at 7 to discuss the water shortage problem. Kens lake water levels are the lowest since 2009.
>>Lawmakers Hear Public Lands Ideas

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Utah lawmakers hear ideas from the nation's outdoor recreation industry on ways to adopt a new style to manage public lands. The Outdoor Industry Association chastised Utah in a statement for its "unfavorable positions" like a law to control 30-million acres of federal lands. The group threatens to pull is huge convention from Salt Lake if Utah does not change it stance on federal lands. Utah Governor Herbert pledges to spend the next year on a solution to find lodging and space so the association can at least hold its bi-annual conventions in the state.
SALT LAKE CITY — Chick-fil-A supporters are eating at the chicken chain's restaurants as the company continues to be criticized for an executive taking a public position against same-sex marriage. Utah supporters of the restaurant chain joined people across the country to make some noise — with their wallets. At the Utah facilities...lines of people stretched into parking lots...and driveup lines of cars stretched for blocks.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Newly released court documents are shedding more light on the murder of six-year-old Sierra Newbold in West Jordan. According to an unsealed search warrant, a neighbor says he saw a man matching the description of the accused killer near where the little girl's body was found. The witness says the man was hunched over with his hands in front of him, rocking back and forth. Terry Lee Black was arrested three days later.

>>Drug Tests Now A Part Of Welfare Application Process

(Undated) -- Utahns who apply for state welfare are going to have to pass a drug test first. The new rule is now in effect. First, applicants have to take an online survey. An in-person drug test could be requested based on the results of the that survey. It's estimated between five and ten percent of Utah welfare recipients are drug-dependent. Similar drug test laws for welfare recipients have been ruled unconstitutional in Michigan and Florida.
 

>Wildfire Sparked By Lightning

(Duchesne County, UT) -- A lightning strike sparks a small wildfire in Duchesne County. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire that did encroach on two homes. Water drops from helicopters were used to put out the flames. Major thunderstorms in the area and the bone-dry conditions are creating the wildfire hazard.

>>Serious Injuries Force Utah Olympians' Withdrawal

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- An Olympic athlete from Utah is pulling out of the London Games with an injury. Cedar Hills BMX rider Arielle Martin has withdrawn following her nasty fall during training a week ago in San Diego. Martin suffered major internal injuries including a lacerated liver and broken ribs.
Undated) -- Both major parties are bringing the Presidential campaign to Colorado. Republican hopeful Mitt Romney's schedule today includes a visit to the Jefferson County Fairgrounds this morning and an event with members of the Republican Governors Association at Basalt Public High School this afternoon. A fundraiser has also reportedly been planned in Aspen tonight. President Obama will visit Denver and Grand Junction next Wednesday and Colorado Springs and Pueblo next Thursday.

SALT LAKE CITY — An electric shuttle will begin operating this fall on the University of Utah campus.
The move is part of an experiment to determine whether the U.'s diesel shuttles should be replaced with vehicles that run on electricity or vehicles that use natural gas.
The U.'s Commuter Services will ultimately determine the best financial option between the electric and natural gas shuttles once the electric shuttle analysis is completed after the fall semester.
