>>Prosecution Starts Case Against Wall

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Prosecutors are designing their case against the Salt Lake City pediatrician accused of murdering his ex-wife. The "Tribune" says prosecutors began to lay out evidence against John Brickman Wall during a hearing yesterday. He's facing felony first-degree murder for the 2011 death of ex-wife and university scientist Uta von Schwedler.

>>Utah Newlywed Stabbed In Las Vegas

(Undated) -- A Utah newlywed on her honeymoon in Las Vegas is recovering after she was stabbed on the Strip. KTNV-TV in Las Vegas says Laralynn Stock Caldwell was back home in Salt Lake City following last week's random attack on her and three other people. Caldwell was stabbed in the lower back as she walked along the Vegas Strip with her new husband. The accused attacker has surrendered to police.

>>GOP Chairman Called Out For Gill Comments

(Salt Lake Co, UT) -- Harsh blowback is directed at the person behind a racist remark about Salt Lake County's District Attorney. Republican chairman Chad Bennion says he stands behind his remark that DA Sim Gill's Indian heritage quote, "tainted his handling of use-of-force-issues." Bennion's comment was in response to Gill's announcement last week that two West Valley City police officers were unjustified when they shot and killed 21-year-old Danielle Willard during a drug investigation.

(Park City, UT) -- Park City is called the "Best Town in America," according to a new list compiled by magazine editors. The lifestyle magazine "Outside" cites Park City's wilderness, fine dining and history of social responsibility in being named number-one overall. The magazine did say Park City's high cost-of-living is a drawback.

>>Ex-Box Elder Co. Deputy Sentenced To 18-Months

(Box Elder County, UT) -- A former Box Elder County Sheriff's deputy accused of strip-searching women during routine traffic stops will spend the next 18 months behind bars. A federal judge ordered Scott Womack yesterday to turn himself into U.S. Marshals anytime before October 14th. Investigators found Womack abused his authority as a law enforcement officer when he violated the civil rights of the women involved. Womack is accused of strip-searching at least eight different women in 2010.

>>Man's Family Says He Was Attacked By Golfer

(West Jordan, UT) -- A 65-year-old man in West Jordan is the victim of an attack after he picked up what he thought was an errantly-fired golf ball on a golf course. KSL-TV says Wayne Magalogo [[ mag-a-logo ]] was attacked during a golf outing at Mountain View Golf Course back in early July. Because Magalogo is unable to speak as a result of the attack, his family says he was punched in the head by a golfer after simply picking up a ball. Police say they are hoping witnesses will come forward because Magalogo waited several weeks to tell the authorities what happened.

>>Honda Cars Are Targets of Thieves In SLC

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Salt Lake City-area drivers of Hondas are being warned about a rash of thefts targeting that brand of vehicle. Police say Honda owners of all makes and models should take precautions due to recent theft activity. Since the year began police have reports of nearly 500 thefts involving Honda vehicles all around Salt Lake City. If you drive a Honda made between 1990 and 2000 police say make sure your windows are left closed, never leave your keys inside the vehicle, use anti-theft alarms and never keep valuables in plain sight.

-Utah- Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Today in nonpartisan municipal primary elections that will narrow candidate fields for mayoral and city council seats to two in each race. Among the most highly contested mayoral races is a seven-candidate chase in West Valley City, which has been rocked by controversy over incidents involving its police department. There is also a race among nine West Jordan residents to assume the top spot there.In Salt Lake City, four council districts have primaries.

 

>>Washington County Drought Continues

(St. George, UT) -- Washington County residents are asked to keep conserving water. Ron Thompson is the general manager for the county's water conservancy district.

Thompson says residents need to conserve water for at least another month or two. Good methods include not running dishwashers until they're full and shortening showers.


(Moab) An asphalt hauling truck was loosing asphalt when a lid cover came looses in Moab yesterday afternoon. The north end of downtown to downtown southbound lane of main was covered in dark material. The driver was stopped and corrected the problem and UDOT and city and highway patrol officials respnded.
