>>Authorities Searching For Alleged Kidnapper

(Undated) -- Utah authorities are searching for a man alleged to have kidnapped a 14-year-old boy from Ogden at knifepoint. Authorities say 33-year-old Ryan Schaffer allegedly kept the teen captive for several days and forced him into sexual activity. The boy told police Schaffer kidnapped him last month as he was exiting a FrontRunner train. Schaffer faces charges including kidnapping but as of yesterday he still hadn't been arrested.

>>Animal Shelter Director Placed On Leave

(Saint George, UT) -- The director of the Saint George animal shelter is under fire for alleged mistreatment of animals. David Vane has been placed on administrative leave in the wake of allegations at his facility including keeping animals in kennels without access to the outside. The City Council also voted to approve changes at the shelter including the implementation of a no-kill policy.

>>Long-Awaited Soccer Field Complex Will Be Reality

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Salt Lake City is planning the construction of more than a dozen new soccer fields by the year 2015. The 16-field complex has been in discussions for nearly a decade. Yesterday, Real Salt Lake gave the city the seven-million-dollars needed to make the project a reality. The complex will be constructed near 19-hundred West and 22-hundred North.

>>Test Flights At Hill A-F-B Commence Today

(Undated) -- Beginning today, pilots at Hill Air Force Base will conduct more than a dozen test flights daily until the end of the month. Air Force officials at Hill are hosting pilots from bases around the country. The flights will test air-to-ground and air-to-air weapons systems. Test flights will continue through August 23rd.



>>Taxpayers Help Paying For Swallow's Defense

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Utah taxpayers will foot the bill for part of the defense for embattled Attorney General John Swallow. The "Tribune" says Swallow is being defended by lawyers from his own office. Swallow faces an ethics complaint before the Utah State Bar.

>>Man Charged In Deadly Shooting

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Charges are filed in connection with a deadly shooting outside a Salt Lake City convenience store. Vilisoni Angilau [[ vill-es-oh-NEE ANG-ah-lau ]] of Salt Lake City was charged yesterday with the first-degree murder of 19-years-old Sione Fakatoufifita [[ see-OH-nuh FAH-kuh-too-fee-feet-uh ]]. The victim was shot multiple times during the April incident outside the Maverik store on Redwood Road.

>>Second Bear Killed At Utah Scout Camp

(Undated) -- Yet another bear is killed at a Utah camp for Boy Scouts. State wildlife officials say a bear was put-down this week after it was spotted at a camp in the Uintah Mountains. Four-weeks ago, a Scout leader shot and killed a bear.

>>Pork Supplier To Stop Use Of Pig Cages

(Undated) -- A Utah-based farm is one of several-hundred farms around the country phasing-out controversial pig cages. Virginia-based pork supplier Smithfield Farms says its Circle Four Farms in Utah is just one of 460 farms around the country which will stop caging their pigs in such a manner. The cages in question have come under scrutiny because they don't allow the pigs to turn or move around.

>>Sandy Mayor Is Highest-Paid In Utah

(Sandy, UT) -- The Mayor of Sandy is the highest-paid city leader in Utah. In 2012, Thomas Dolan led all Utah mayors with yearly salary and benefits of a little more than 128-thousand dollars. Ogden Mayor Matt Godfrey is second by a mere 57-dollars. Third was Logan's J. Randy Watts with 98-thousand dollars.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A Salt Lake woman is praising her new dog for saving her life. Jenine [[ JUH-neen ]] Green says last week, she returned from Pioneer Days to let Gilligan and her other dog out.

Police say kidnapping suspect Jeremy Storm was hiding in Green's garage. He'd earlier allegedly led authorities on a high-speed two-county chase. Neither Green nor her dogs were harmed.

GEORGE, Utah – The Southwest Utah Public Health Department is working to identify customers who ate at a pizza restaurant on certain dates after they learned an employee tested positive for hepatitis A. According to a press release from the SWUPHD, a food handler at the Pizza Factory located at Ancestor Square tested positive for

hepatitis A.Health officials are asking customers who ate at the restaurant to contact them. .

 

The US Bureau of Land Management’s Moab, Utah, field office is seeking public comments on an environmental assessment for the proposed Dead Horse natural gas lateral pipeline project. The 24-mile-long line would transport gas which now is being flared in the Big Flat area to a processing facility near the Big Hills road, it said in a July 26 notice.

It said Fidelity Oil and Gas would construct the pipeline, which would parallel Utah State Highway 313 and the Dubinky Well Road. The draft EA analyzes potential environmental impacts from constructing the gas lateral pipeline, the notice indicated. Comments will be accepted through Aug. 26, it said.

The document is accessible online through the Utah BLM’s Environmental Notification Board by typing Dead Horse in the Project Name portion of the advanced search field, the notice said.
