SALT LAKE CITY — Though the hurricane may be far away, for local Red Cross volunteers, the disaster hits right at home.
Mandatory evacuations have been ordered in New Jersey, the New York subway system has been shut down as a result of Hurricane Sandy
. About 100 local volunteers in Utah at the American Red Cross are preparing to assist with rescue efforts. Two have already been deployed to New York. To help the Red Cross' efforts, text 9099 for a $10 donation, or go to redcross.org.
>>West Jordan Party Turns Violent

(West Jordan, UT) -- Police are investigating a West Jordan party that turned violent. Cops heard shots as they arrived on a loud noise report early Saturday. A vehicle left the scene on West Pauline Way, and those in the home wouldn't come out. A SWAT team got in and ended the standoff. Those arrested face a number of misdemeanor charges, including disturbing the peace, and resisting arrest.

>>Man Killed By Box Elder County Deputies Was From Sandy

(Corinne, UT) -- The man shot and killed by Box Elder County sheriff's deputies is 52-year-old Troy Clark Burkinshaw of Sandy. Box Elder County Sheriff Lynn Yeates says a deputy tried to talk to Burkinshaw when he was seen urinating off Highway 13 Friday in Brigham City. Authorities say he drove off and was chased to Corinne. After he was stopped Burkinshaw allegedly tried to run over the deputy and was shot.

>>Zion Climber Falls To His Death

(Zion National Park, UT) -- A man is dead in a more than 40-foot fall in Zion National Park. Forty-nine-year-old Lyle Dale Hurd the Third was with three other people Friday on the Northeast Buttress route below Angels Landing. 911 was called and a member of his group gave medical help. The body was removed by search and rescue crews.

>>Rededication Of Crash Monument

(Antelope Island, UT) -- Family and friends from around the country are remembering those killed 20 years ago in a helicopter crash off Antelope Island. They came together this weekend to rededicate the monument to the 12 Air Force special operations troops and Army Rangers, who died October 29th, 1992, on a training exercise. None was from Utah but were from military installations in Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.

>>Officer In Car Crash Out Of Hospital

(West Valley City, UT) -- A Unified police officer is out of the hospital after a crash in a police car in West Valley City. The officer was on duty Saturday, reportedly driving with lights and siren. Police say a 17-year-old driver failed to yield and was cited.

>>Two Men Face Charges In LDS Church Stabbing

(Holladay, UT) -- Two men face charges in connection with last August's deadly stabbing outside an LDS Church in Holladay. Austin Taylor and Ryan Curtz each plead guilty to one count of second-degree obstruction of justice and assault. The alleged killer, Talon Levi Hamann, has already been charged with first-degree murder for the death of 25-year-old Michael Workman. Taylor and Curtz will be sentenced December 17th.

>>Ogden Man Charged With Girlfriend's Death

(Ogden, UT) -- Charges are filed against an Ogden man after he allegedly fatally beat his live-in girlfriend. Jeffrey Dean White faces one-count of third-degree murder for the death of 38-year-old Marnie Stark. White also faces domestic violence in the presence of child because his two children ages seven and nine were present in the home at the time of the killing.

>>Four Road Warriors Busted For Marijuana In SLC

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- Four cross country travelers are busted in Salt Lake City after authorities find them with eleven-pounds of marijuana. The finding was made during a routine traffic stop at Salt Lake City International over the weekend. The four were traveling from California to Detroit when they encountered car trouble. They then tried to rent a car but a background check led police to search their vehicle and that's when the pot was discovered.

>>Ogden Businessman Wants To Liven ThIngs Up

(Ogden, UT) -- An Ogden entrepreneur's plans to revive an old strip mall with live music is on hold for now. Earnie McKown had to shut his Paris Cafe in the Harrison Plaza Shopping Center in downtown Ogden earlier this year. But McKown is asking City Councilors to rezone the mall so it can host live entertainment in a vacant storefront. The venue would be a nonalcoholic social club and serve as a hang out for teens.

CALGARY, Alberta — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicated their 140th temple, and their third temple in Alberta.
The temple was dedicated Sunday morning by Thomas S. Monson, who also performed the traditional cornerstone ceremony earlier that morning. Local church leaders and members gathered for the dedication Sunday, and for the cultural celebration Saturday

2A PLAYOFFS
GRAND 48, MILLARD 33: Grand led the entire way and pulled away for good in the final two minutes after Millard missed a two-point conversion attempt that would've tied the game at 35-35 with under three minutes remaining. Wesley Rodda increased the lead to 41-33 with his second TD reception of the game a few plays later, and then Aaron Randall tacked on an interception for a touchdown to seal the victory.
MANTI 38, BEAVER 7: Manti got help from everyone Friday night, picking up touchdowns from five different players in the blowout victory in the 2A quarterfinals. The Templars had 127 yards rushing, with 208 yards passing to down the visiting team. Manti held Millard to less than 50 yards rushing in the 2A Playoffs.
Grand Manti are in the first Game of the 2-A semi finals Saturday at 11am at SUU's Stadium in Cedar City.
 
SAN JUAN 56, EMERY 13: Barkley Christensen had three rushing touchdowns, and also threw for a pair of TDs, as San Juan managed to outscore Emery 42-7 in the first half to cruise to victory. Logan Meyer and Bobby Bowring each finished the game with a pair of scores, as the Broncos dominated for the 2A Quarterfinal win.
SOUTH SUMMIT 21, RICHFIELD 14:
San Juan and South Summitt will play in the 2-a Semi's at 2pm in Cedar City.
MONTICELLO 41, SUMMIT ACADEMY 6: Monticello scored all 41 points in the first half, and were able to cruise past Summit Academy to advance in the 1A Playoffs.
 
 
Monticello Girls won the state 1-a Vollyball championship with a win over St joseph in the final match.
