(Blanding Utah)-
San Juan County prosecutors have charged a pair of Blanding men with aggravated arson and burglary charges in connection with a November fire that destroyed the San Juan High School library and caused an estimated $1 million in total damage.
Christopher Stolzer, 22, and Deven W. White, 19, were charged on Friday with one count each of first-degree felony aggravated arson and third-degree felony burglary in San Juan County’s 7th District Court. preliminary hearing on the charges is this morning in Monticello.
Blanding police and San Juan Sheriff's Deputies arrested Stolzer and White about five hours after the fire was reported.

(Monticello Utah)- The Sunday Deseret News did a story on survival of small town newspapers, featuring the San Juan Record and its Editor-Owner, Bill Boyle. Boyle returned to his home town of Monticello...leaving a successful banking business career, to buy the Record. Since then the newspaper has been on a steady road of not much growth in street circulation, some growth in internet circulation and a strong gorwth in its connection to San Juan County Residents. >>Legendary College Coach Majerus Remembered

(Undated) -- Legendary college basketball coach Rick Majerus [[ muh-JAIR-us ]] is remembered as someone with "kindness and innate goodness to the underdog and the underserved." The "Salt Lake Tribune" reports his friend and philanthropist Jon Huntsman Sr. says Majerus was waiting for a heart transplant when he died Saturday at age 64. Majerus led Utah from 1989 through 2004 taking them to nine NCAA Tournament appearances. Overall, Majerus racked up a 517-216 career record in 25 seasons.

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- The University of Utah is mourning the death of former college basketball coach Rick Majerus [[ muh-JAIR-us ]]. Majerus had a history of heart problems and died Saturday at age 64. Ute Athletic Director Chris Hill praised the former coach's "national prominence" he brought to the program and the "tremendous impact on the young men who were fortunate enough to play for him." Majerus also led the St. Louis University Billikens to the NCAA Tournament last season. SLU Director of Athletics Chris May says "Coach Majerus put his heart and soul into the Billiken program."

(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A special election is sending Democratic Chair Jim Dabakis to the Utah Senate for District Two. He takes the place of Ben McAdams who was elected Salt Lake County Mayor. Dabakis defeated outgoing Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, Jenny Wilson and Brian Doughty.

(Park City, UT) -- Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz is telling Utah Democrats President Obama's reelection victory "wasn't even close" adding voters "had a clear choice and they chose decisively." Schultz spoke to the Democratic National Executive Committee this weekend in Park City. The "Salt Lake Tribune" reports the Florida Congresswoman says she's "thrilled" by the election victory of Representative Jim Matheson over Republican challenger Mia Love.

>>Utah Sen. Wants Ban On Sex-Selective Abortions
(Salt Lake City, UT) -- A Utah lawmaker is seeking a ban on sex-selective abortions. The "Deseret News" says Utah Senator Margaret Dayton wants to prohibit the practice by woman of having an abortion based on whether they will have a boy or a girl. An official with Planned Parenthood says the proposed bill is a quote "solution looking for a problem" as there are no documented cases of selective abortions ever happening in Utah. Arizona, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania have already instituted bans on sex-selective abortions.

>>Three Bodies Recovered From Plane Crash Site

(Fillmore, UT) -- Three bodies are recovered from the wreckage of a small plane crash near Fillmore in central Utah. The Highway Patrol says all three bodies were found yesterday at the crash site 15-miles outside Fillmore. That's about 150-miles south of Salt Lake City. Officials say the plane went down November 25th after refueling there. Pilot Matthew Ahrens and passengers Trista Meyer and a nine-year-old girl departed Bakersfield, California that day and were bound for Gillette, Wyoming before the crash.

>>BYU Student Recalled After Car Wreck

(Undated) -- The BYU student killed in a Thanksgiving weekend car accident is fondly remembered by friends and family. Eighteen-year-old Madeline Morris was killed instantly when the car she and her brother and his fiancée were riding in crashed near Mount Carmel. The group was heading to Arizona to be with family for the holiday. Morris' family says they've been overwhelmed by an outpouring of support by people who knew Madeline.

 
 
 
PARK CITY, Utah – A Salt Lake City man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Park City on Sunday.
Utah Highway Patrol officials say 38-year-old Paul Velo from Salt Lake City was traveling northbound on SR-224 near Silver Springs Drive in Park City when he lost control of his car as it approached a curve in the road at around 1:45 a.m.Velo was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car when it rolled. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, but preliminary reports suggest that speed and possible DUI may have been involved.

Mormon Tabernacle Choir, accompanied by the Orchestra at Temple Square, highlighted the hour-long event with seasonal hymns and carols. Church President Thomas S. Monson remarked that the real joy of Christmas is found in making Jesus Christ the focus of the season.
